majorelle blues

I have had a busy month on the home front with moving house taking up a lot of my time and energy
so not a lot of time for blogging . . .
But slowly the practicalities are getting done and moving aside for the pretty stuff,
and even more exciting - I have a small office/workspace.
So I thought I would share some of the images I have earmarked for inspiration in this "room of my own"
The starting point - and hence the title of this post - is the quintessential blue of Jardin Majorelle.

It's the combination of that intense blue, with that wonderful accent of sunshine yellow

{and lord knows we need all the sunshine we can get here in the uk
even if i have to paint it in myself!}
Here are some more images for my Majorelle Blue Moodboard

So I am off to buy some paint!

My Etsy Finds

I have recently moved into the world of ETSY as

A few items have already found their way out of the medina to new homes,
while I, in the meantime, have been seeing what other creative people out there are putting in their Etsy shops and am living vicariously through my "favourite" list as I decide which item to succumb to.

Here are a few of the items I have added to my Etsy Wish List
It seems I've inadvertantly favoured the blues!

Barring the unexpected my day starts off with a fresh pot of coffee - I love the simplicity of this print

Another simple shape and beautiful colouring in this bowl by

  ONEandMANY

This handpainted linen cushion is perfect for day dreaming - and made by a fellow South African who has the lovely shop toucheefeellee

A little bit of blue beadwork can never go amiss - from TheSeaLovers

And finally this inky sea blue map from iPrintPoster.
Just to remind yourself its a big old world out there.

 HAPPY SHOPPING

shopping the blues . . .

There seems to be a whole lot of blue out there this week - or is it just my facebook feed??

I love following the creations of Australian jewellery designer Birdie Hill - she always uses beautiful and inspiring images - this was her contribution to the blues this week!

And then my friend Marianne added this blue note to the mix - one of her RedDog designs in this great colour - I might have to trade in my red for a blue!
and finally this morning I saw this blue boucherouite carpet which I decided I had to add to my collection on
Shouf!

so a blue week , but not in a bad way!
and ending in theme - a bit of Blue Velvet by Lana Del Rey.

blogging the blues

well . . . I have been feeling a little blue the past few days, so in an attempt to harness this energy and turn it around, I decided to do this post
an audio /visual blue-ish blog

and at the risk of being bossy, and {unnecessarily} interactive -  start playing the music clip before you scroll down to look at the images - it kind of works!

Indigo: The Colour that Changed the World

a little bit of blue to brighten up the weekend . . .

A friend of mine recently drew my attention to this book, and the images are so lovely I felt they where worth sharing.

There is something enigmatic and inspiring about a colour with history and a story, and out of all those colours indigo is perhaps one of the most poetic. Its story takes you on a trip from Africa, to Asia and Central America.

The emblematic blue of the Tuareg (an ancient Berber tribe that ranges from southern morocco through to Mali) tells of the history of the trade routes as their turbans and cloths are dyed from the ink of sea urchins from the Mediterranean sea.

But {as they say} I digress - so back to the book,
and below are just a few of the beautiful images that made me want to dash out and buy it,
to page through it at my leisure before displaying it on my coffee table . . .
